Adventure, wildlife and the chance to make a difference — together
This nine-day family adventure takes you from the temples and colourful streets of Kathmandu to the jungles and rivers of Chitwan, before spending the final part of the journey with Mission Himalaya at its Eco Home in Panauti.
Experience Nepal through the eyes of the whole family: explore ancient temples, travel into Chitwan National Park, search for rhinos on safari, drift along the Rapti River by canoe and experience the traditions of the local Tharu community.
Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves.
At Mission Himalaya, families will spend time with the children at the Eco Home and take part in activities together, before contributing to work on a local community clinic. Depending on what is most useful at the time, this may include practical tasks such as painting, landscaping and organising supplies.
Designed for families with children aged 5–18, the itinerary balances adventure and purpose with time to slow down and actually enjoy being away together.
It’s not about climbing the highest mountain or walking the furthest distance. The challenge is to step into a completely different world as a family, get involved and contribute to something worthwhile along the way.

Itinerary
Day 1 | 3 April — Arrive in Kathmandu
Arrive in Kathmandu and transfer to your family-friendly hotel, with time to settle in after your journey.
In the evening, meet your fellow Gulf for Good families over a welcome dinner and traditional Nepali dance performance.
Day 2 | 4 April — Discover Kathmandu
Spend the day exploring some of the Kathmandu Valley’s most fascinating cultural sites.
Visit the great white stupa of Boudhanath alongside pilgrims and monks, experience the sacred traditions of Pashupatinath Temple on the banks of the Bagmati River, and explore Patan’s historic Durbar Square — an ancient centre of artisans and craftspeople.
Day 3 | 5 April — Kathmandu → Chitwan
Leave the city behind with a short scenic flight to Chitwan and check into your jungle lodge on the edge of Chitwan National Park.
In the evening, meet members of the local Tharu community and enjoy a traditional cultural show and stick dance.
Day 4 | 6 April — Jungle Safari & Rapti River
A full day of wildlife and adventure. Head into the Chitwan buffer zone with local rangers on a guided jeep or walking safari, looking for rhinos, deer and other wildlife.
Later, take to the water for a gentle canoe journey along the Rapti River.
The programme also includes a visit to an elephant breeding centre, where the focus is on observing rather than riding the elephants.
Day 5 | 7 April — Tharu Village & Nature
Enjoy a more relaxed morning with a nature walk and bird-watching around the lodge grounds. Visit a local Tharu village, including its cultural museum and a craft demonstration, before returning to the lodge.
The afternoon is deliberately left free for some downtime — pool time, games or simply the chance to relax together.
Day 6 | 8 April — Chitwan → Panauti
Enjoy an easy morning at the lodge before taking a short flight back to Kathmandu and continuing by road to Panauti, home to Mission Himalaya’s Eco Home.
Spend the afternoon getting to know the Eco Home, its team and the children who live there, with opportunities to join activities together.
Day 7 | 9 April — Play, Creativity & Connection
Spend the day at Mission Himalaya’s Eco Home.
The planned programme includes a friendly sports day and shared arts and crafts activities — a chance for families and the Eco Home children to spend time together through play and creativity.
Activities will be guided by Mission Himalaya and may be adapted according to what is appropriate and useful at the time.
Day 8 | 10 April — Community Clinic Project
Today the focus moves to the community clinic.
Working alongside the local team, families will contribute to practical work helping refresh and improve the clinic. Depending on the needs of the project at the time, activities may include painting, landscaping and organising supplies.
No specialist skills are required — just a willingness to get involved.
Day 9 | 11 April — Final Morning & Departure
Spend a final morning contributing to the clinic project before saying goodbye to the Mission Himalaya team.
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your journey home.

The Impact in Nepal
This challenge brings the impact element directly into the family experience.
During your time in Panauti, you’ll visit Mission Himalaya’s Eco Home, spend time taking part in activities with the children and contribute to practical work on a community clinic project.
The exact work will depend on the needs and progress of the project at the time of the challenge, but may include painting, landscaping and organising supplies.
The aim is simple: work alongside the local team, contribute where help is genuinely useful and leave the project a little further forward than you found it.
Participants will also fundraise in support of the charity work connected to the challenge, with further information about the specific fundraising project and target provided by Gulf for Good.
